The 2013 Dartmouth Food Festival
The Dartmouth Food Festival has been running for a decade and was described by The Daily Telegraph (in February 2011), as a ‘heady mix of celebrity chefs, parties, food markets, tasting shacks and demonstrations’.
Mitch Tonks joined the festival in 2010 and managed to lure Mark Hix, Valentine Warner and Tom Parker-Bowles amongst others to not only turn up, but also to do a range of demos. We have had heroes like Jane Baxter (ex Riverford Organics) and Holly Jones (Manna from Devon) cooking alongside wine experts Susy Atkins (Sunday Telegraph, Saturday Morning Kitchen), Fiona Beckett (The Guardian) and award-winning Tim McLaughlin-Green from Sommeliers Choice.
Kit & I are hugely involved. Kit does the ever popular ‘Kingswear Landladies Brunch’ along with Tony from Kaywana Hall and David Jones from Manna from Devon which is a sellout every yearand also helps with compering various demonstrations. I help organise the many, many fantastic volunteers the festival relies upon to help it run smoothly.
This event gives us all a perfect opportunity to show off the huge talent and variety of culinary delights, combined with ‘location, location, location’. Dartmouth is now a year-round destination. We have The Dartmouth Music Festival, The Crab Festival, The Royal Regatta, The Fishing Festival and a Yuletide Candlelit Dartmouth .
